Please send us your completed application, current resume, and cover letter for consideration. FBES Directors
Ferry Beach Ecology School was founded in the fall of 1998 by Brad Bradway, Drew Dumsch and Steve Signell (former FBES Director of Staff & Curriculum and author of the FBES Teaching Guide). FBES directors currently include Drew in his ninth year as Executive Director, Alex Grindle, Residential Program Director, and Maggie Daigle, Community Relations Director. Together our administrators have more than 20 years experience in teaching and creating effective, innovative environmental education programs.
Drew Dumsch,
Executive Director

(Saco, Maine) — Kalamazoo College & University of Tennessee, Knoxville BA & MA Degrees in English.
Drew was a naturalist in California and Chicago and since 1991 has been an ecologist at Ferry Beach. He founded Ferry Beach Ecology School in 1998, is treasurer of the Maine Environmental Education Association (MEEA), and is a member of both the New England Environmental Education Alliance (NEEEA) and the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). When not at Ferry Beach, Drew spends his time at home with his wife, Lisa, his bright-eyed 3 year old daughter, Nia and Sophie, the newest addition to their clan, born on March 12th!
Alex Grindle, Residential Program Director

(Portland, ME) — BA (2001) in Environmental Studies and Politics from Oberlin College, Ohio. Alex began her career at Ferry Beach in the spring of 2002, worked as a naturalist for four terms, and stepped into an administrative position in January of 2004. She is into politics, pottery and knitting and is an avid Red Sox fan. She can also be found being crafty, trying to put her two cats on a diet, enjoying being outside, reading stellar literature (especially if it is children’s literature!) or cooking scrumptious meals with her fiancé, Peter.
Maggie Daigle, Community Relations Director

(Portland, ME) — BA in Journalism and Fine Art from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Before joining FBES in Spring of 2006, Maggie’s career in communications and marketing included work as a newspaper editor, reporter and columnist as well as a communications director for small and large businesses. Her art and photography background have served her well in graphic design, web site development and other geeky pursuits. Maggie is a board member with Maine Youth Leadership and has been a volunteer since 1994. She also serves on Saco Spirit’s Promotions Committee, is a member of Saco’s Energy Committee and volunteers with Sail Maine. When she’s not farming for Felweed, Maggie can be found sailing, skiing, gardening, or trying a new recipe on her husband Bob and stepsons Evan and Keith.
Meg Edstrom,
Outreach Director

(Saco, ME) — MA (2004) in Elementary Education from the University of Maine. BA (2002) in Philosophy and Religion from Colgate University. Meg grew up in Rhode Island but, with respect, is now from Maine. She’d been teaching 4th and 5th grade grades in Northport, ME before the fates collided to bring her to FBES. Meg spends a good part of her summer canoeing on the Allagash, and enjoys “backcountry” snowboarding through blueberry barrens. Meg was a FBES naturalist in the spring of 2007 and joined our administrative team soon after that.
Jaime Duval,
Assistant Director

(Old Orchard Beach, ME) — BA in Human Ecology from the College of the Atlantic. MS in Environmental Studies from Antioch New England. Jaime returned to FBES after a three year hiatus to be our Assistant Director. Most recently she was on the graduate faculty at Teton Science Schools involved in their residential environmental education programs. She is easy to find digging in the garden, soaking up the warmth of the greenhouse or adventuring with her fiancé, Rob.
